"THE FINE ART OF PERSONAL EXPRESSION"

I've been very fortunate to do what I love doing for the last 25 years plus. Having had the opportunity to study the great works of art in museums and in print and to travel and paint ("en plein air") both in the United States and Europe, my work is driven by both the use of light and color.

While being part of the Impressionist tradition, it is still a thrill to be encompassed and inspired by nature. Smaller studies done on location often are the springboard for larger, more complex paintings done in the studio.

Light, I believe, can impart a spiritual quality. Subject matter (though still important) became subordinate to the effects of light. Color, mood and edges became vehicles for expression.

A successful painting is one that captures and radiates these effects back to the
viewer: a visually exciting meeting ground!

Light, combined with an Impressionistic handling of edges and color, helps to convey the feelings I am after --- the shared journey of artist and appreciator.
